Newton Recovery Center

Holistic Therapy in Boston, Massachusetts

Newton Recovery Center offers holistic therapy near Boston as a complement to evidence-based mental health and addiction treatment, giving clients additional ways to care for their minds, bodies, and overall health.

Through approaches that encourage movement, creativity, mindfulness, connection, and healthy living, holistic care can become another part of the recovery process while working alongside clinical treatment.

What Is Holistic Therapy?

Holistic therapy considers the connection between the mind, body, and spirit rather than focusing only on symptoms or a specific diagnosis. It recognizes that emotional well-being can be influenced by physical health, stress, relationships, lifestyle, and a person’s sense of connection and purpose. Holistic services can complement traditional treatment by creating opportunities to slow down, become more aware of what you are experiencing, and explore healthy ways to care for yourself.

How Holistic Care Supports Mental Health and Addiction Recovery

Mental health challenges and addiction can affect much more than your thoughts or behaviors. Stress may show up physically, difficult emotions can interfere with sleep and daily routines, and substance use may gradually disconnect you from activities that once brought enjoyment. Holistic therapies can offer healthy experiences that encourage relaxation, self-expression, physical activity, and greater awareness of the mind-body connection.

These approaches can also provide alternatives to familiar patterns of coping. Whether you are learning to sit quietly with your thoughts, express yourself through art or music, or reconnect with your body through movement, holistic care can become another way to practice skills that contribute to a lasting recovery.

Holistic Therapies We Offer

Newton Recovery Center offers a range of holistic therapies that can complement clinical treatment. Each approach offers something different, and the services available to you may depend on your personal treatment program and specific needs.

Music Therapy

Music therapy uses music and musical activities as a way to support emotional expression and well-being. Creating, listening to, or engaging with music can give clients another outlet for feelings that may be difficult to put into words while encouraging reflection and connection.

Yoga

Yoga combines physical movement, breathing, and focused attention. Practicing yoga can encourage relaxation, body awareness, and a greater sense of connection between physical and emotional well-being.

Reiki

Reiki is a complementary practice centered around relaxation and intentional energy work. For some clients, a Reiki session can provide a quiet opportunity to slow down, become more present, and experience a sense of calm during treatment.

Movement Therapy

Movement therapy uses physical activity and body awareness as part of emotional expression and wellness. It can help clients reconnect with their bodies, release tension, and explore how movement can influence mood and stress.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the placement of very thin needles at specific points on the body. As a complementary service, it may be incorporated into treatment to promote relaxation and provide another avenue for caring for physical and emotional well-being.

Fitness and Nutrition

Physical health can play an important role in how you feel and function throughout recovery. Fitness and nutrition services encourage healthier daily habits by helping clients explore movement, nourishment, and other aspects of taking care of their bodies.

Meditation

Meditation gives clients time to slow down and focus their attention on the present moment. With practice, meditation can become a useful way to create space between an experience and an immediate reaction, particularly during periods of stress or emotional discomfort. The NCCIH even notes that research suggests meditation and mindfulness may help reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

Art Therapy

Art therapy provides a creative outlet for exploring thoughts and emotions that may be difficult to express through conversation alone. Drawing, painting, and other forms of artistic expression can encourage self-exploration while making room for creativity during the recovery process.

Adventure Therapy

Adventure therapy incorporates engaging activities and experiences into the therapeutic process. Stepping outside familiar routines can encourage self-discovery, connection, problem-solving, and a willingness to approach new experiences.

Combining Holistic and Evidence-Based Treatment

Holistic therapies are most effective when they complement, rather than replace, clinical treatment. At Newton Recovery Center, holistic services are incorporated alongside evidence-based approaches to address different aspects of mental health and recovery.

Depending on your needs and treatment plan, evidence-based care may include:

Benefits of Holistic Therapy

Our holistic therapy near Boston can offer benefits that extend beyond a traditional therapy session. These approaches can give clients additional ways to relax, reconnect with themselves, and take part in their own healing.

Depending on the approach, clients may experience:

Tranquility

Quiet, restorative practices can provide a welcome break from stress and emotional intensity.

Nurturing

Holistic services create opportunities to care for yourself physically, emotionally, and personally.

Self-awareness

Mindfulness and body-focused practices can help you notice how thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations interact.

Self-expression

Creative therapies can make it easier to explore feelings that are difficult to communicate verbally.

Healthy connection

Shared activities can create opportunities to connect with yourself, others, and the world around you.

Holistic Care Across Our Levels of Care

Holistic services can be incorporated throughout your treatment journey. We offer a continuum of outpatient programs to ensure clients receive the level of care needed at each stage of healing.

The programs we offer include:

  • Day Treatment: Also known as a partial hospitalization program or PHP, clients can participate in holistic services alongside frequent clinical programming. This creates opportunities to balance intensive therapy with restorative and experiential activities.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program: IOP consists of therapy sessions three to five days a week for a few hours at a time. During the program, clients continue living at home and practicing new skills in everyday settings.
  • Outpatient Treatment: In traditional outpatient treatment, holistic services may complement ongoing therapy and help clients continue incorporating healthy practices into their routines.

This place was an amazing time I was here for two weeks, the only complaint I have is that dinner was not very good, breakfast and lunch was typically amazing. They have their own food truck, mental health groups were small sizes and personalized to your needs.

The Recovery Team (TRT) is a great place overall. It is what you make of it. You put in the work the place will put back into you. Patience is a key to success at TRT. Lean on the staff. They will go out their way their way for you if you go out the way for yourself. Be sure to make sure you get everything in writing from admissions. Admissions will over sale. But when you walk into the place it will take some adjustments but it can feel like home. Good luck to you in your recovery.
